Orwell Real Estate: mixed-use development in Basildon

Hamlins acted for Orwell Real Estate on the forward sale of a landmark mixed-use development and regeneration scheme in Basildon, in the south east of England.

The joint venture between Orwell Real Estate and Housing Growth Partnership will include 492 one- and two-bedroom Build to Rent apartments, five outdoor terraces, a gym, co-working areas, and flexible commercial space which will include shops, restaurants and a new healthcare facility. Funded by a £74m development loan from Maslow Capital, the transaction involved complex real estate and corporate restructuring with a team of four other law firms representing different parties involved.

This was high-profile deal in the real estate market, collectively delivered by our Real Estate, Construction, Corporate and Real Estate Finance teams at the end of 2024.
