1957 Monaco Grand Prix – Juan-Manuel Fangio

Hamlins Commercial and Tech team advised Racing Past Media (RPM) in facilitating its content partnership with the Tate Collection, one of the world’s leading curated archives of Formula 1 colour film.

Commonly referred to as the ‘golden era’ of Grand Prix racing, the collection spans the 1950s and 1960s and is now exclusively available for commercial licence via RPM.

A number of iconic moments from Formula 1 history are now accessible to view through the RPM media hub.

Racing Past Media is an organisation dedicated to preserving archival motorsport footage, making historic Formula 1 content available for both research and entertainment purposes.

The partnership

Hamlins supported RPM in structuring and negotiating a multi-year content partnership with the Tate Collection, positioning RPM as the exclusive provider and distributor of the archive.

The work involved negotiating and entering into a suite of agreements, including publishing and distribution arrangements, and advising on a bespoke commercial structure tailored to the partnership. This included direct negotiations with the Tate Collection and supporting RPM in securing exclusive rights to commercialise the content.

As part of the agreed framework, the parties entered into a publishing agreement confirming RPM as the exclusive distributor of the collection, alongside provisions that support long-term commercial alignment between the parties, including mechanisms linked to future valuation thresholds.

The result is a new content and licensing model within the motorsport media space.
