Hire of Simon Gallant brings further boost for Hamlins’ Media and Entertainment Practice

London law firm Hamlins announced that Simon Gallant – a prominent media law specialist has joined the firm as a Consultant.

Simon has more than 30 years’ expertise in the field of defamation, privacy and reputation management law and was previously a partner at Mishcon de Reya as well as the owner of the legal boutique Gallant Maxwell.

In addition, Simon has acted in numerous litigation matters involving production, distribution and sales agreements in the film and media sector.  As a former Consultant to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising he provided pre-clearance advice to over 200 advertising agencies. As part of that role he was also a member of the Independent Television Commission’s Advertising Advisory Committee and the Committee of Advertising Practice.

Currently Simon is representing the advocacy group against racism and fascism -Hope not Hate in the ongoing legal proceedings against Nigel Farage as well as advising on several phone hacking matters.

The latest appointment reflects the continuing success and expansion of Hamlins media and entertainment practice, with practice head Christopher Hutchings currently acting as the lead solicitor for all phone hacking claimants in the ongoing News Group trial.

In 2015, Hamlins also appointed Andrew Stephenson – recognised as one of the leading defamation lawyers in the country with unrivalled experience in advising high profile political figures on national and international reputational issue.  In addition, Andrew was a member of the Ministry of Justice working group set up in 2010 to consider reform of libel law, which led to the Defamation Act 2013.
