UK Intellectual Property Office fees increase: 1 April 2026

The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO), the government body responsible for intellectual property rights — including trade marks, patents, designs and copyright, is updating costs across its services from 1 April 2026. These changes apply to applications, renewals and procedural actions.

New costs from the UK IPO effective from 1 April

What the UK IPO cost rises mean for businesses

  • Budget adjustments may be needed
  • Consider class strategy to manage long-term costs
  • The increases are relatively small and do not materially affect overall costs

Matthew Pryke, Head of our Commercial and Tech team advises: "While price increases are never welcomed, UK IP assets still provide a wonderful return on investment to protect and enhance what are, so often, a businesses key assets."
