London law firm Hamlins continues its ambitious growth with the acquisition of the corporate team from London-based Maddox Legal.
The team from Maddox, led by the firm’s co-founder Joss Alcraft, will further strengthen Hamlins’ corporate practice.
Maddox Legal was co-founded by Joss Alcraft and managing partner Mark Archer in 2018. Mark sadly passed away last month but had intended to make the move to Hamlins with the team.
Joss is joined by associate Sacha Withey, and they will continue to support their current clients, which include SMEs, start-ups and global agencies across the creative and professional services sectors.
Last year, Hamlins acquired boutique practice Swan Turton, boosting its market-leading media and tech practices and says it has further strategic acquisitions in the pipeline.
Hamlins specialises in media, sport, real estate, retail, leisure and tech. Its media team was at the forefront of the Unlawful Information Gathering (phone hacking) litigation, acting for claimants in cases brought against News Group Newspapers and Associated Newspapers and achieving public apologies and substantial settlements for its clients. The firm has also pioneered claims against Channel 5 for invasion of privacy on the TV show ‘Can’t Pay, We’ll Take It Away’.
Hamlins’ market-leading commercial, real estate and corporate teams work for the likes of Foxtons Europe, Palace Capital PLC, LEON Restaurants, Structadene Group, Powerleague, Shutterstock, NCP, William Pears Group and Winkworth PLC.
Hamlins managing partner Matthew Pryke says: “Mark’s passing is incredibly sad for all who knew him and we send our heartfelt condolences to Mark’s family, alongside Joss and everyone at Maddox Legal, during this difficult time.
“We welcome Joss and Sacha into the Hamlins family, and we are excited to continue to deliver on our five-year plan for growth. This is a great time to be at Hamlins. We have further acquisitions in the pipeline, with plans to bring in teams that complement our core areas of expertise and align with our cultural values.”
“Our growth strategy is focused on deepening our expertise in the areas where Hamlins is already strong, ensuring we continue to provide an unrivalled service to our clients.”
Joss Alcraft, who joins Hamlins as a corporate partner, says: “I am delighted to join such a dynamic and well-regarded firm, and I look forward to contributing to Hamlins' continued success and helping it deliver on its ambitious growth plans. The depth and breadth of experience and expertise at Hamlins will enable me and the wider team to deliver an unmatched service to our clients.”
