Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) and PRS For Music

We act for Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) and PRS For Music, the UK’s two music collecting societies, in the protection of their copyright in sound recordings and musical works.

PPL and PRS represent hundreds of thousands of performers, composers and record companies and collect hundreds of millions of pounds per year in royalties and licence fees.

In 2018, PRS for Music and PPL joined forces to set up PPL PRS Ltd, a joint venture combining the two societies’ public performance licensing activities. This was an ambitious and welcome project which has seen the biggest change to the public performance side of the music industry for decades.

We continue to advise PPL, PRS and PPL PRS to ensure the rights and royalties owned by its loyal members are protected and to recover significant damages, royalties and costs as well as ensuring infringers are properly licensed for the future.
