Stephanie is an Australian qualified lawyer with strong post qualification experience specialising in the conduct and management of high value, complex, and high profile commercial disputes.   Stephanie also has experience running and junioring informal and court programmed mediation conferences and other forms of ADR.

She also currently is assisting the Media team with the large scale NGN phone hacking litigation where Hamlins are Lead Solicitor, and the MGN phone hacking litigation.

Prior to joining Hamlins, Stephanie worked in house in the Enforcement Division of the Financial Reporting Council, the UK’s statutory audit regulator and corporate governance authority.  She also worked in house as a senior litigation lawyer at a leading UK retail banking institution advising the bank on high value, complex litigation matters.    Her experience in house has given her a true appreciation of clients’ key priorities in the management of their cases, particularly from a relationship and costs management perspective.

Stephanie qualified as a lawyer in Australia in 2011.  Prior to relocating to the UK, she worked at leading national Australian law firms as a commercial litigator with a focus on banking and insolvency litigation matters.  Key clients whilst in practice in Australia included the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac, National Australia Bank, the Australian Taxation Office, and the “Big 4” accounting firms.   Whilst in practice in Australia she also regularly appeared as counsel and acted as instructing solicitor in every Western Australian and Federal court in interlocutory and final hearings.

Work Highlights

    • Member of the Enforcement Division of the FRC working on a number of high profile, complex investigations into the conduct of audits of Public Interest Entities by the “Big 6” accounting firms.
    • Member of a small in house team at a leading banking institution which successfully defended an action in the High Court brought by some 5,800 shareholder claimants against the bank and five of its former directors in relation to the bank’s acquisition of a competitor at the height of the financial crisis, and its participation in the UK government’s bank recapitalisation scheme (Sharp v Blank [2019] EWHC 3078 (Ch)).
    • Member of the Commercial Banking Litigation team at a leading banking institution working on a section 166 FSMA review of mis-sold Interest Rate Hedging Products to unsophisticated customers in the SME market and undertaking the assessment of their consequential loss claims.
    • Acting for numerous claimants in the phone-hacking litigation against The Sun, News of the World and Mirror Group in claims for unlawful information gathering and voicemail interception.
    • Whilst in practice in Australia, day-to-day client management and carriage of the firm’s practice with the Australian Taxation Office and “Big 4” institutional banking clients comprising complex insolvency and debt recovery matters.
